17 killed, 20 rescued as Building Collapses in Maharashtra: Report

A three-story building is collapsed in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra near Mumbai sometime earlier this morning. According to reports, as of now, 10 peoples have lost their lives in this tragic incident, and around 15 peoples are still trapped in the collapsed building.

There are some reports emerging that suggests that 31 peoples have been rescued until now. The building was collapsed in the early morning around 03:40 AM and due to the rapid actions of neighbors and locals, 20 peoples were rescued immediately when the building started collapsing.

On this horrific incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolences with the peoples who suffered in this incident of building collapse and promise to provide all necessary assistance as soon as possible.

PM Modi tweeted, “Saddened by the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quicjk recovery of those injured. The rescue operation is underway and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected.”

As per the local authorities, the building collapse happened around 03:40 AM in the morning in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra.

One of the officials from Thane city said, “Ten People have died, we have rescued 11 People alive.”

Currently, more than 40 emergency workers including 30 members of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) are performing the extraction process.

The Director of NDRF General Satya Narayan Pradhan informed via twitter that sniffer dogs and personnel with specialized equipment have been released to the scene and they all are engaged in the rescue of “20-25 feared trapped.”

Reportedly, the building was around 40 years old and currently, there were 20 families were living in the building. The reason for the cause of building collapse is not known yet however earlier Municipal issued a notice to repair the building.
