Chandrayaan 2 has completed one year orbiting the moon’s orbit. On this occasion, the space agency ISRO released the initial data set associated with the mission, stating that even though Vikram Lander failed in the soft landing, the orbiter has completed 4400 orbits around the moon and all eight onboard equipment performed well are doing. The orbiter is equipped with high tech cameras so that it can gather information about the outer atmosphere of the moon and its surface. Chandrayaan 2 was launched on 22 July 2019 and put into lunar orbit on 20 August. Exactly one year ago.
Chandrayaan-2: ISRO says it will function for 7 yrs
India’s second lunar mission Chandrayaan 2 was launched on 22 July 2019 and it entered the lunar orbit a year ago i.e. on 20 August. The lander Vikram lost contact with ISRO during the landing on the moon on 7 September.
However, it was later revealed that Vikram made a hard landing on the moon. The mission was launched with the objectives of obtaining detailed information on geographical location, mineralogy, surface chemical composition, thermo-physical characteristics, and lunar exosphere. Mirzapur Season 2
Chandrayaan 1, India’s first lunar mission, is credited with finding large amounts of water on the lunar surface and signs of subsurface polar-water ice. ISRO is also working on Chandrayaan-3 and is likely to be launched in 2021 or later.
ISRO said that Chandrayaan 2 has enough fuel to run for seven more years. The spacecraft is perfectly fine and the performance of all its sub-systems is normal. The orbiter is being maintained in 100 +/- 25 km polar orbit with periodic orbit maintenance mowers.
Depending on the position of the Sun, the light on the lunar surface will vary throughout the year. Therefore, when conventional imaging cameras are unable to take pictures due to poor light, ISRO uses many devices for taking and studying the moon.
The Terrain Mapping Camera 2 has been able to take approximately 4 million square km of the lunar field, over 220 orbits, compared to the previous year. The TMC-2 is said to be the highest resolution camera that is currently in orbit around the Moon. These pictures will help scientists to study the moon a lot.
