A video was presented at the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan that demonstrated the international day against the Nuclear tests. The objective of this video exhibition was to show the viewers how the land of Kazakh has suffered in the past several years from the test nuclear explosions and struggle involved to put an end on all of these nuclear tests. The decision of Nursultan Nazarbayev has an important role in this success too. In the exhibitions, there were some rare archival documents, photos & videos, publications, museum exhibits, and books from the library.
The Director of the Library, Amerkhan Rakhimrazhanov said, “The video tour reveals the details of the period when our state experienced one of the most difficult trials in its history. We honor the memory of those years when hundreds of thousands of people suffered from a nuclear shock. Peace and tranquility of an independent country is the main value of Kazakh people.
We remember the lessons of the past in order to not repeat the tragedy, for the sake of peaceful development and prosperity of future generations. In the virtual exhibition, we tried to show the key events from the history of the test site’s closure, the activities of the First President in the matter of nuclear disarmament.

August 29 is a very significant day for not only Kazakhstan but for the anti-nuclear community all over the world. In 1991, the first President signed a proclamation that “On the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test site”, after the Nevada test site in the USA, this is the world’s largest nuclear test site. By taking such a big decision, Kazakhstan showed the entire world that there are other ways to develop humankind with peace like economic growth and world cooperation. Later on, the United nation declared August 29 as the international day against Nuclear Test, after having a suggestion from Kazakhstan. That’s not it, in order to promote no use of the weapon of mass destruction for military purposes, Kazakhstan also initiates and co-author of the Nuclear Weapons Free World Declaration later in 2015 it is adopted by the UN General Assembly.
“The unprecedented decision of the First President of Kazakhstan to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site on August 29, 1991, one of the largest in the world, was recognized not only as of the first legal ban on nuclear tests in human history but also provided a strong basis for the establishment of the International Day,” Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.
